Fall Craft Projects

As Narnia enthusiasts, we were excited to learn that NarniaWeb.com was holding a pumpkin carving contest and a cookie contest with a Narnian theme. We discussed possible entries while picking the last of our garden produce. Krista found an acorn squash with a peculiarly shaped stem and immediately determined to make it into the Dawn Treader, a famous ship from the Narnia books. The photos below show that her creativity extends beyond music! The Dawn Treader under sail. Krista carved the acorn squash into the shape of a ship, leaving the stem in tact to represent the Dawn Treader's dragon prow. She whittled maple branches into the single mast and cut out a sail out of purple cloth.

The Dawn Treader at anchor near "Dragon Island". Is that Eustace up there?

A detailed photo of the crow's nest, made out of a walnut shell. The flag was cut out of scraps of tapestry and attached to a toothpick.

Janna created a gingerbread "dufflepud".

A dufflepud is a single footed dwarf like creature encountered by King Caspian and the Pevensie children in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
Neither of the girl's creations won a prize in the NarniaWeb contest, we we sure enjoyed their creativity!
