Every concert season, we go through the same routine. After a break from music for several months, we are usually excited to book some performances. Then the week before the concert, we run around madly trying to squeeze rehearsals into our already full schedule and wonder why we try to be performers. But everything seems to pull together at the last minute, we have a wonderful performance and feel blessed by God and loved by man and know very well why we perform!
Preparing for our two hour concert at Sydney's Cafe was no different. This was the first time we ever had a cover charge, so we were especially anxious to put on a good concert. Practicing became a bit of a problem. Two forty-five minute sets of music is too long to practice in one sitting! We had to practice bits and pieces and perform shortened versions at the retirement homes. We finally set aside the Thursday night before the concert to practice the entire song list. Just as we were cleaning up from dinner, some friends called and asked to come over, as they were waiting at the airport to pick up a family member whose flight was delayed. The visit turned out to be providential. Our practice went SO much better because we had an audience!
Friday, we worked a schedule for Saturday. Each family member had to agree to pay 25 cents for every minute he or she was late getting in the van.
Saturday afternoon saw every single person in the van on time! We had plenty of time to set up at Sydney's and do a sound check. We had a rather small turn out, but performers and audience all agreed that it was a marvelous concert and anyone who missed the was to be pitied. The folks at Sydney's kept everyone well supplied with coffee, tea, smoothies, and delectable bakery treats. We played a lot of songs from our CD, and some new ones that quickly became popular! Krista, our multi-instrumentalist, debuted her new instrument: the autoharp. We were excited because Duane, the man who gave us the autoharp, was able to come to the performance.

It was such a wonderful experience to be able be your "audience" that one evening. I have never actually watched you play most of your songs. It was truly a blessing and it helped our evening go faster too! Time flies when your having fun! God bless you for your shining hospitality.
