One of the highlights of our summer is attending the Independence Day Picnic at the Bradrick Family Farms in Washington. All year we look forward to a day of fun, games and fellowship with other homeschooling families.
Getting ready: Kathrina sews a new red, white and blue skirt. She finished it the night before we left!
The day before the picnic is spent cooking and packing. Here, Janna grates chocolate for her pie that will be entered in the Pie Contest.

After we arrived at the Bradrick's farm and had a meal, everyone gathered in the barn for historical presentations. We even heard from John and Abigail Adams!
Despite rainy, cold weather, contestants eagerly lined up for the games. Noah participated in the sack race. You can see him in the photo above wearing his camo shirt and hat.
Kathrina, Sarah, and Krista participated in the ladies tug-of-war.
After an afternoon of games and visiting, followed by a barbeque supper, it is time to announce the winners of the pie contest!

Janna's Heavenly Coffee Pie. This pie won third place in the Non-fruit category! This was the first time one of our pies has placed!
After eating as much pie as we could hold, everyone gathered around the bonfire to sing hymns. The girls brought their instruments. Several children were fascinated with Janna's harp.
The girls were able to join the singers with their instruments.
After the hymn sing, the girls gathered with a banjo player and a mandolinist for their annual jam session. It is such a joy to share music together!
