Song Lyrics: Hieland Laddie

We have had some requests for the lyrics of the songs featured on our CD Journey Through The Highlands. An Anglicized version of the lyrics for Hieland Laddie are listed below followed by the traditional Scottish wording. We used several Scottish words in our version. "Hieland" is the Scottish spelling for "highland". You can read a brief history of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite rebellion referenced in the song here
Enjoy!

Hieland Laddie
Will ye go to Inverness
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
There you'll see the heiland dress.
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
On his head a bonnet blue
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
Tartan plaid and hieland trews (trousers)
Bonnie Laddie Hieland Laddie
~
When he drew his good broad-sword,
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
Then he gave his royal word
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
From and field he ne'er would flee
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
With his friends he'd live or die
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
~
Georgie sits in Charlie's chair
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
But I think he'll not bide there
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
Ne're reflect on sorrows past
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
Charlie will be king at last
Bonnie Laddie, Heiland Laddie
~
Time and tide come 'round to all
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
And upstart pride will get a fall
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
Keep you heart for Charlie's fight
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
Come what may you've done what's right
Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie
