Soundtracks

We love soundtracks. There is something alive and emotional in soundtrack music. Even if we haven't seen a particular movie, we will often still enjoy listening to it's soundtrack! But we especially enjoy soundtracks from movies we have seen and that have become favorites. Our lively imaginations have images to go with the music. One of our biggest challenges as musicians is to arrange our favorite soundtrack music for our abilities and instruments. It can be frustrating to try to capture the sounds of a symphony and the emotions from a film on our instruments. Yet we find playing movies themes extremely rewarding. Once we have the work behind us (and its not all frustrating work), we have a piece of music that means more to us than just a pretty melody and we have images and emotions to inspire our performance of it.

Recently we enjoyed Masterpiece Theatre's presentation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Perhaps it's the warm portrayal of sisters or the nobleness and virtue of the main characters....anyway we love Pride and Prejudice!


We found a copy of the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack at the library and enjoyed the opportunity to listen more closely to the music behind the film. It was written in the style of classical music in the early 1800s and has a light and elegant air. We girls love the images of candles, dresses, roses, carriages, and English country dancing that are intertwined with the music. So, despite resolutely declaring ourselves to have taken a break from music, we are eagerly planning to add the music from Pride and Prejudice to our repertoire!
