Our Harpist

Janna, playing at a wedding this summer
Right now Janna is learning a piece for harp and choir. It's about 25 minutes long, and in some places, like the spot below, she has to read three staves! Take a look:
I'm impressed, and can't wait to hear this piece in its entirety. Go Janna!

Good heavens, that looks terrifying and excessively complicated. She is very brave. :)

That's awesome. I'm used to three staves, but I've never seen so many notes in the third stave.

Wow! I like the glissandos towards the end!

Is this actually possible to play on the piano with two octaves chord in the LH!? Well, maybe you could hire Franz Liszt…. MAYBE!
Also, who is the composer? Debussy? Do you like to use solfege for your harp music?

Looks like a very interesting piece! I’d like to hear you play it! (Hint, hint!!) :)

It is possible to play on the piano, though very difficult! It is slightly easier on the harp, because flats are pre-set and there are no pedal changes through this passage, but it is still very difficult. You are jumping around a lot so you practically have to have it memorized to play up to speed! The entire ceremony is very difficult to play.

It is by Benjamin Britten, and if you want to hear me play it you can come to the choir performance December 10th at 7:30 at Milwaukie Lutheran or the Grotto December 20th at 8:00.

I actually like to use fixed do solfege - was originally trained that way and still think like that!
