Civil War Reenactment

We've been busy lately settling into our "school" schedule, starting music classes, and trying to stop staying up so late! We are attempting to get a reasonable amount of academic goals achieved before the busy Christmas performance season starts! We are still stumbling upon plenty of musical opportunities...like joining some families from Bible Family Fellowship playing hymns for senior center residents. And last weekend, we had the opportunity to go to a Civil War Reenactment that took place not too far away from us at McIver State Park in Estacada. Our friends (newly married David and Keslie plus Keslie's family) were participating in the event as reenactors. They showed us the way to the battlefield for the first battle event of the day.

Along the way, we passed lots of reenactor tents furnished with historic looking furniture.

Some southern ladies having a picnic in the field were scared off by gunfire. The battle is about to begin!

Some ladies were not leaving the field quick enough so the cavalry had to "encourage" them along!

Here comes a contingent of Confederate soldiers. David was a part of this unit, so it was doubly fun to watch maneuvers of the armies!

Here is the union army! There was enough gunfire, smoke, and cannons roaring to satisfy anybody! The Confederate army "won" this battle.

After the battle, we listened to some presentations by different reenactors, then ate our lunch while enjoying some Civil War era music and visited with the P family, a homeschooling family we've crossed paths with on several occasions.

Krista and Janna join the dancers! Krista also wisely had her recorders stowed in her backpack and was called upon to join the musicians for "Battle Hymn of the Republic".

Another battle!

The union charge! The union army came out victorious in this battle!
After visiting with a new reenacting family we met, talking with the musicians, and saying goodbye to our friends, we finally got in the van just before a downpour of rain! We had a fun time and laughed about how we can't avoid music wherever we go!
