We arrived at our home away from home in Maine very late at night to find the lights on and soft music playing. We knew it was going to be a special place to stay!
There was even a cake for us!
We went into the visitor center to plan our stay. Outside of it, there was these adorable hobbit holes.
They could be custom designed for a variety of uses, such as tool storage or guest houses!
We really want one for a guest house!
We were near the town of Belfast which was nestled on a picturesque harbor so characteristic of Maine.
Because of the variation of water level during the tides, Maine is not well suited for docks. Instead, they have spots where boats moor in the middle of the bay and people use smaller dinghys to travel back and forth.
We walked to the nearby "Gingerbread Town" where colorful houses overlooked the bay. We had almost stayed here, but where glad we chose the house we did!
It was so lovely just to sit and gaze at the bay...
...or swing and gaze at it...
...or glance at it out of the corner of your eye as you played basketball!
The house we rented came with two kayaks. The coast of Maine is so broken with islands, that the actual ocean is a ways out. We enjoyed taking the kayaks out onto the bay near our house!
Sarah coming in.
Mom and I taking a turn!
